After high school many people dream of going to college for the next several years, meeting lots of life long friends and going to a lot of parties. That reality is not the case for everyone though. Congratulations on your decision to start homeschooling your children. This can be a very rewarding venture, but also carries with it a lot of challenges. It can be hard to know just where to begin. Don’t panic; here are some things you should do to get prepared to homeschool your children.

The first thing you’ll need to do is to become familiar with the laws pertaining to homeschooling in your particular state. Each state has different laws and regulations covering homeschooling, so be sure to read up on these. Ignorance of the law, after all is no excuse. It might be a good idea to join a homeschooling group in your area. These groups will charge membership dues annually, but this is well worth the expense if you need to avail yourself of the resources and assistance they offer. The Home School Legal Defense Association is one of the more popular groups.

A good curriculum guide is also a must. You have a multitude of options here. You should look for a comprehensive guide which gives you a lot of possibilities to choose from for a curriculum for your child. You should set a budget for this as well. With so many resources out there for you, you can spend as little or as much as you want here. Don’t be afraid to adjust your curriculum if you need to. After all, homeschooling is all about the flexibility to individualize the curriculum to your child’s needs.

Thirdly, join a support group. Homeschooling can be very overwhelming. Having other like minded parents with whom to consult is invaluable. Preaching the Word of God and A Bible Timeline Chart

You can imagine my surprise when recently it an old retired pastor, sharply rebuked me for making some interesting points about the death burial in the resurrection of Jesus, and he quoted a Scripture 1Tim 1:4 “nor to occupy themselves with myths and endless genealogies.. ”

I quietly and respectfully asked him if I had said anything that was heretical or inappropriate to which he answered. “No”. I explained that this Scripture was never meant to exclude genuine enquiry into the Bible, but rather it was targeting the false philosophy of Gnosticism. But he would not have it.

Gnosticism had been so influential in the new Testament times, and the new Testament writings, how could a pastor of 40 years experience not know this. It is important for pastors to know these things, and to teach their congregation in order that they might understand and interpret their Bible well.

Tragically, a large proportion of pastors preach light weight messages, are so very shallow so that the congregation hardly grow in the Bible and interpretation skills. Pastors love to preach ‘moral essays’ and ‘warming affirmations’ because, if we truly ‘love’, others, this is what we will do.

It seems that, so long as we are positive and ‘nice’ to all, it really doesn’t matter if Christians are falling between the cracks because of a lack of knowledge.

The reality is, the more ‘relevant’ Christians become, to the world, the less relevant we all are in actuality, to the world.
There is far more to the Kingdom than ‘feel good’ messages and favorite topics. Teachers preach on a text from Song of Solomon as well as a piece about a man of courage from 2 Samuel; topical sermon from Luke followed by the a firm belief in god of Jeremiah or the integrity of Lot.

After preaching portions from here and from there, through the Bible we need then to put it all together in a clear, understandable way for our congregation.

We seem to have a constant flow of new books and ideas, with dangerous Liberal leanings. We are repeating history, but if we were to teach the basics of Church history, we would be more equipped to avoid repeating that history.

Let’s equip the Church in understanding God, His Great Plan and the Bible by sewing each piece together into a seamless beautiful tapestry.

This is not difficult to attain, if we put in some good prayer and study.
