e_Marketing Blog Upgrading to Wordpress 2.7 Just finished upgrading one of my many Wordpress blogs to v 2.7 - the newest upgrade which was released on Dec. 10 makes several attractive improvements to the interface. This upgrade is not so concerned with functionality as it is with improving the user interface. I was able to upgrade my Article Marketing blog in about 15 minutes when all was said and done. There were no suprises and no hitches along the way. I'm sure subsequent upgrades on other sites will go faster. Squidoo New Look Squidoo seems to have a new edit and publish interface. I've always found it a bit clunky in the past, but now it seems quite a bit easier to add modules. The process makes more sense to me. I just created a lense about Car Repair for a client. WiMAX for Portland WiMAX service will soon be available in Portland, Oregon. What is WiMAX? It is a wireless alternative to cable or DSL. For a number of years this technology has promised to revolutionize the delivery of "last mile" service connecting homes and offices to internet access points. But these days the focus is more on mobile applications that make it a viable alternative to standard cell phone services. The provider of this service in Portland will be Clearwire, a company formed through joint cooperation of Sprint, Clearwire, Google, Intel, Comcast, and Time Warner. WiMAX will not be significantly cheaper than the alternatives, but it does promise to offer greater potential for merging disparate services such as internet, cell phone, Voip and cable tv. |

Companies Must Have Clear Objectives When Starting a Blog Blogging has become a mainstream internet communication tool. In fact with the advent of "social content" sites like digg.com, many would say it is almost old hat.Perhaps a sign of this evolution is a just released study of blogging by the University of Massachusetts which suggests businesses must adopt blogging as part of their corporate strategy. "Blogs must be viewed as part of the overall package and voice of the organization," according to "Behind the Scenes in the Blogosphere: Advice from Established Bloggers." This was a survey of 74 bloggers conduced by Nora Ganim Barnes, director of the Center for Marketing Research at the University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth. According to the report a company blog can be a very powerful force for reaching its customers, employees, and other stakeholders. "Blogs will make or break your business," says the report's first sentence. But one important word of advice: "Do not start a blog, if you don't know what you want to do with it." Understand what blogs can and cannot do, and have clear objectives for your blog. In other words, a company blog needs a plan: "Without a plan the blog is going to fail within three months. Period," one study respondent said. And the plan should address: - What is the blog's goal, focus, and audience - Is it an attempt to generate income? - Make a commitment to making frequent posts. It takes time -- about 1/3 of respondents spend one to three hours a day on their blog. - Companies need a streamlined procedure for approving posts. - How will negative comments be dealt with? A blog's "success" is measured differently by every blogger. Sometimes it is in terms of sales; but usually in terms of public relations. Sometimes the primary audience is an internal one -- employees -- in an attempt to define company strategy and unified goals. Since blogs are ideal for conversation, comment and feedback, a blog is a good place to communicate with the company. It gives the company a personal face.
