How I let $42,000 of sales commissions and revenue slip through my fingers! I was doing everything right, except for one thing. SCARY! One simple mistake.
Between my business and my extra-curricular activities (which got me most of my business), On any given day I was managing about 50 transactions, committees and projects. And this in addition to running my business. That’s a lot of details. At every meeting I attended people let me know “my brother is thinking about selling his house”, “I want to buy a rental property” or “call me for a refi”. The strangest business networking lead I got was standing at a urinal next to a fellow Chamber Board Member at our Chamber Planning Retreat when he said “Call Me about…” Boy, do I love business networking!
One day I put on a jacket that I almost never wore and found two business cards with a notes on the back to call so and so. 2 cards…2 notes and NO DATE! Immediately I called both numbers, but the people thought I didn’t need their business and had gone with someone else. The people who had recommended me were pissed I didn’t help their friends. $42,000 of lost revenue! All because I didn’t have a system to follow up with my business networking activities, requests and conversations. And that was only what I could directly track and confirm. I don’t even want to think of all the “call me” leads I just forgot about.
