It would be fair to say that this a rather good time for the gamer; casual or dedicated. Though the Xbox and Playstation family remain popular; also making its mark is the Nintendo Wii. Of course, there are issues regards game pricing and so on, and this is just one area that a Softmod Wii can help the kit perform even better.
The number of games to be had from Softmodding a Wii is also increased; bringing access to downloads and, excellently, imports that are often regionalized. It is a relatively straight forward process too, relying on software to make the changes necessary rather than hardware changes that can be complicated.
Best of all perhaps, is that unlike a chip installation, the warranty will not be voided. It is a cheap process to do too; just ensure you know what you are doing and the guide you follow is from somewhere reputable.
Fortunately, there are plenty of tutorials easily available online to help the game do this for themselves. Or, alternatively, a hand techie friend could be asked politely of course. The number of games is increased too as, once complete; the console will be able to play games from older consoles too.
Backup games can also be played, which can be a real godsend if a game has been misplaced and funds are short. The Softmod Wii will also be able to play DVDs and again, will be able to manage imported media to make things more cost effective and give access to different versions.
The benefits of a Softmod Wii are huge really; allowing the potential to unlock the console and let it do so much more than factory produced kit.
Now is a great time to be a gamer, with so many great consoles and great games to while away the hours on. One of the most popular consoles out there is the softmod wii, offering fun for the entire family. More info on softmodding wii .

Free iPhones for you and your family? Sounds too good to be true doesn’t it? The latest craze sweeping the internet is affiliate marketing, and it’s building up quite a head of steam. There are of course sceptics, but those who have been getting involved seem to be happy enough, and the affiliate sites themselves seem to be growing in number. They promise iPods, iPhones, digital cameras and PS3s to ‘members’ who sign up for a trial promotion, and get others to do the same. Are these sites for real, are they a scam and how can they afford to give stuff away for nothing? Read on and I’ll explain.
What is affiliate marketing and how does it work?
Affiliate marketing is a clever way to get people to sign up to what you are offering. The most common form is google ads which appear as hyperlinks next to the google search that you just performed. When these links are clicked, a commission is paid to the person hosting the link either when someone clicks on the link, or when they buy something from the site. Typically this is small, but in the case of many sites, they can be substantially higher.
How do these sites make money and still give away iPhones and PS3s?
Simple. if they persuade you to sign up to their site, and take out a promotional offer, and then persuade a number of people to do the same, then you are generating business for them. Sites like freebiejeebies and kudosnetwork (aimed at the UK, USA and Canada see below) structure their incentives this way. You sign up to the site, take out a promotional offer which is often free, and persuade a number of people to do the same. Once these have all been validated, you get your gift. But you only get credited when the people you have referred take out a promotion themselves. If you need 18 referrals and each of those 18 people need 18 referrals to get what they want, then the site has gained 324 customers. The next 18 from each of those 18 gives 5832 people, yet the site has only given away 19 iPhones. The numbers stack up very quickly, and as you can see, it makes perfect financial sense for them.
Advertising as we know it is changing form. This is one of the new forms. It is targeted specifically, and it involves you the consumer, doing the legwork, incentivised by the shiny techno-goodies they are offering you. It’s not technically ‘free’, it involves some time, one trial, and a lot of willing friends to help you over the line.
What’s in it for the middleman, the website owner?
Considerable amounts of money, of course. He needs you, however, to make the wheels turn – the reason he comes up with salivating prizes to get you off your bum selling on his behalf. You are charged with the job of working out which of your friends would be interested in such a scheme, and more importantly which of your friends wouldn’t, and you keep pushing to reach your goal like a salesman after his bonus (iPhone). Meanwhile Mr. Site Owner sits there taking a commission for every sale her gets, and passes on a residual to you in the form of your gift. His marketing is clever, and as you can see, he is doing very well out of it.
But wouldn’t they lose money by giving away iPhones to every person?
Theoretically if they gave away iPhones to everyone, then they might make a loss, but as is always the case, not everyone makes it to the number they need to get their free gift; only achieving a couple of referrals or none at all. They have contributed to the list of people signed up, yet have received nothing in return. It all balances out in the end. If it doesn’t, the number of referrals required per item goes up to reflect how savvy the customers are being, or how much revenue the site is receiving. In short they are not likely to lose out as long as the advertisers are happy, and as far as we can tell, they are.
And what about the advertisers? If everyone cancelled their free trials, would they not lose out?
It is possible that if everyone suddenly did complete all their referrals, that the site might temporarily be out of pocket, but they would raise the amount of referrals required to ensure that they are always making a profit. As you come at the bottom of the chain, you are the last to get paid, so to speak, so know that the sites always have cash, and that’s how they honour their contract with you, and give you your iPhone. Also remember, it pays for them to keep their reputation sweet amongst their agents (you guys), as without you and your clever efforts, they are nothing. Can they really afford to go around making promises they can’t keep? Not for long, and these sites are alive and well and have been for some time, so it appears they’ve got the balance right.
So does this affiliate marketing work?
Yes, absolutely, categorically, and for all parties involved. Is it free? Not completely, but if you are wily, it won’t cost you a penny, just some time and some clever thinking. Find a list of people want a new iPhone themselves, and get them signed up ASAP.
Examples of two UK based affiliate marketing sites for you to check out are: kudos network and freebiejeebies. Click on the links below to visit the sites. And Good Luck!

A new gaming laptop could make an incredible gift for the gamer in your life. If you aren’t familiar with the specifications and statistics, it can get a bit confusing. There is a big difference between prices as well as capabilities, but here are a few of the most popular. To begin, Alienware’s new M17x high-performance laptop upholds the company’s reputation for innovation. Running Windows Vista operating system, the M17x runs a 2. 53 GHz Intel Core 2 Extreme Quad processor.
At first, this may seem like an overwhelming amount of power, but with the quick pace of advancement in technology these days, it won’t seem so overwhelming within the year.
The two 500 GB hard drives and the 8 GB of RAM make the 1920 X 1200 screen resolution almost an unbelievable sight on the relatively large 17 inch screen. Keep in mind though, that this premium machine is a robust 12. 7 pounds and an equally bulky 4000 retail price.
If you are looking for something a little more affordable, perhaps you should consider their M15x model. With a slightly slower 2 GHz Intel Core i7-920XM it can still fully optimize its DVDr/BD-ROM combo drive for perfect high definition movies.
A close look at its specs and it is easy to see where this significant price change comes from. The slower 2 GHz Intel Core i7-920XM process can still take full advantage of the DVDr/BD-ROM combo drive for all of your high-definition viewing needs.
This unit runs Windows 7 Ultimate operating system so you can be sure to have optimal performance both on and off the web, no matter what applications you are using. The 15 inch LCD screen is slightly smaller than Alienware’s other entry on this list but at full HD 1920 X 1080 native resolution, you might not even notice. At 9 pounds it is also substantially lighter in weight.
The Sony Vaio NW180J/S rounds out our list as the most affordable and most accessible laptop. At $1200 it is easily the most cost efficient, and with a still high-quality 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, you might not realize that it runs at half the speed of the more costly models.
The moderate 15. 5 inch display is a slightly larger one for today’s gaming laptop specifications, and is perfect for the included Blu-Ray playback capability.

The Xbox 360 has been out for some time now, and during this time we have seen some great titles. Some of these titles have left us with memories and wanting more from the production companies and others make us regret that we even paid for the thing. It makes us say all kinds of bad things to the production companies.
Let’s face it, games are not cheap and when we have to fork out a lot of money for a game, we expect it to be good. At the very least, we don’t expect the production companies to release a game simply because they feel their profits need to be boosted. What makes it worse, is that a game can still be good even if it has a poor story line. Even when the story is useless, providing there are some truly memorable characters, most of us will be happy.
For example, let’s take a look at “Two World’s”, a game which very few enjoyed simply because the graphics were deplorable. Over and above the graphics, the sound quality was equally as bad. If you ever had the chance to play the game and you’re honest, you’ll agree that it was a total failure.
Another game which left a lot to be desired was “Hour-of-Victory”. Now, had this game been released a couple of years before it was, then we may have found it to be acceptable. However by the time it was released, the sound quality and graphics was simply unable to measure up to many other games on the market. In fact if you’re looking for a good WWII game, then you can play “Call of Duty” instead which is in a totally different league.
Vampire games are brilliant are they not? Maybe so, but that was certainly not the case with “Vampire Rain”. As any gamer can attest to, a stealth game should prove to be a challenge as is the case with Splinter Cell. After all, fighting vampires should really be a challenge but if you can get past them by sneaking about, then it defeats the object of the game. It’s hardly surprising then that Vampire Rain became an instant failure. What made it even worse was the fact that so many scenes had been cut, not to mention the game took forever to load. Even the sound and the graphics could only be described as being average at best.
Perhaps the biggest insult of all was a game called “Jumper” which was based on a movie. When programmers are expected to take a game which was originally intended for a cheap machine and tweak it so that it can be used on a new platform, then they need to be given some credit if they pull it off. However, that certainly wasn’t the case with Jumper in that it used PS2 graphics from beginning to end. In fact it left many people wondering if it wasn’t released with the intention of being an insult to the gaming community.
The games mentioned above are just the tip of the iceberg as far as bad games are concerned. As you may have already discovered yourself, it’s incredibly easy to throw your money away on a bad game simply because by the time you realize it, it’s too late.
For your own good, you need to do some research before you purchase a game, bearing in mind that there are some websites which offer good, honest and unbiased reviews. Perhaps the old adage should apply in that you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover.

Everything can be found on the virtual world we call the Internet… it doesn’t matter what you are looking for, it’s there and has most likely been there for a long time already!
The most popular card game in the world, poker, can now be played through the Internet. Thus, we have what we call ‘online poker’.
To play online poker, all you need is an internet connection! With such ease of use, it is no wonder that more and more people are logging in to play poker tournaments for cash and prizes.
Brief history on Poker
To better understand the nature of online poker, it would help if you will know something about the card game’s background and history.
Poker is a classic card game that has been played for centuries. The aim of the game is to win the “pot” by having the highest ranking card combination.
There will always be debate about the origins of poker. Linguistic scholars insist that the name ‘poker’ literally descended from ‘poque’, a French word which in turn came from a German word ‘pochen’, which means to knock’.
The mechanics of poker suggest otherwise, and has led to the relation of poker to the ‘as nasi’ game that was played in old Persia (now Iran). Studies suggest that the Persian sailors in the 17th century had taught the game to French settlers in the US state of New Orleans.
From then on, a lot of modifications in the mechanics and way of playing have been introduced. It would be safe to assert that like humanity, poker has evolved and online poker is just one form of evolution the game has taken over the decades.
Online poker vs. brick and mortar poker
Traditional poker venues are sometimes referred to as ‘bricks-and-mortar’ poker rooms. With not many poker rooms around these days, players are intimidated to attend such events because of the distance required to travel and play.
As inflation increases, so do wages, and so do general operating costs… making running a traditional poker room an unprofitable business venture. You must wonder, how could this happen when they charge so much for commissions or rake. For your information, those charges and fees do not usually offset the costs in running or operating an actual poker room.
Brick and mortar venues and casinos strategically survive nowadays from revenue generated by slot machines in their houses.
Online poker, in contrast, are now more preferred by poker organizers because the game requires cheaper overhead costs. For instance, adding one more online poker table will not take long and will not require more space, unlike in brick and mortar.
Players often view online poker as friendlier and more flexible. Ecah player is prompted by a software when it is already his or her turn to throw cards. Thus, no one will be missed. Online poker is also more attractive for beginners because they can be allowed to play online poker even for much lower stakes, which can be as low as a single cent!
For online poker players, there are no download fees, or registration fees… in actual fact, players are enticed with deposit bonuses up to 100%. How’s that for value!
Protection in online poker venues
The grim reality that where there is money involved, scammers are always attracted. This does include online poker rooms, thankfully the online poker rooms are well prepared.
However, to avoid fraud and collusion among online poker players, Internet sites and businesses that run these sites often install anti-collusion detection software and programs. This could not be possible in the brick and mortar casinos and poker rooms.
Does that stop the scammers? Yes it does! Some known methods include checking IP addresses so that people in the same household can’t cheat. Another method involves checking for know proxy servers to prevent cheats from ‘ganging up’.
A players history of play is also available for review with online poker rooms. Traditional venues don’t have such a privilege, so cheating at ‘real’ tables is much easier than online.
Thus, it is recommendable that if you are anywhere far from any known poker room or casino, log on to the Internet. A lot of sites offer online poker games, and you can choose whether you would want to play against real-time players located anywhere in the globe or against computer programs. The latter would be a real challenge.

Is there a dark side to the Wii Gaming Console? Judging from its worldwide popularity you wouldn’t think so. But there is! For those who are enjoying the Wii craze you know that sooner or later you will have to replace those Wii remote batteries.
The Facts
Alkaline batteries are responsible for up to 20% of the household hazardous materials that make their way to local landfills. There are over 84,000 tons of alkaline batteries disposed of each year in America…no small amount.
Why the Concern?
So whats the danger?
Batteries are not as innocent as they first appear. Once the batteries are taken to the landfills they begin to breakdown and decay. This decay releases the hazardous materials that are contained within the batteries, including mercury and toxins.
There are huge initiatives around the country, and the world for that matter, to reduce and hopefully eliminate the number of batteries polluting our landfills. Keeping batteries out of landfills should be a goal for anyone claiming to be environmentally conscious.
What Can be Done About It?
Heck, you just wanted to play some games; you didnt want to have a negative effect on the environment! So, whats a gamer to do? The obvious answer is to reduce the amount of batteries you consume while gaming. But how can you do that?
A partial solution to this problem is rechargeable batteries, and for the Wii gamer that would mean a Wii charge station. You will be able to recharge your Wii remote batteries with ease with the Wii charge station. Each rechargeable battery can be recharged up to 2000 times, replacing approximately 300 alkaline batteries.
If each Wii gamer used rechargeable batteries in their Wii remotes, there would be a huge reduction of poisonous materials seeping into and harming the land.
The Wii charge station saves your landfills, saves you money on batteries, and as a huge side bonus, it makes sure the next time youre ready to pick up a remote and play, your batteries will have the juice to perform.

Microsoft has sure had a winner with the xbox 360! It’s one of the top-selling systems ever to be released and it keeps on selling even with all the new systems that have been released since it was launched. One of our favorite features is the ability to find new games for your xbox by download. It’s easy to find all sorts of xbox 360 downloads right on your own computer.
We do get several emails a week asking about xbox 360 downloads, so hopefully this quick article helps out a few people. Being able to download games for your xbox is a great feature that can save you a lot of money and give you an easy way to always find a new game when you want one.
Ok – let’s get to the good stuff! We’re going to cover the two main options that you have for finding xbox 360 downloads.
The First Option – XBOX 360 Game Downloads
The first choice that many will try out is to look for websites that offer “free xbox 360 downloads”. There’s a few of these sites out there that advertise this, but it’s important you know a couple of things before you use them.
The first warning we always issue about these types of websites is that they are full of viruses and spyware. It’s risky business when you download anything from them – you just can’t be sure of what you are actually downloading.
Obviously the word “free” here is the problem. There isn’t any money being invested into these websites so the technology behind them is pretty weak. The download speeds are very slow and many of the files don’t even work at all. When you go to use them they often won’t even work since they are “corrupt”.
Obviously we aren’t going to recommend this option. Since you run the risk of infecting your computer and you can waste a lot of your time, we suggest you stay away from these sites.
Your Second Option – XBOX 360 Game Downloads
When people saw that there was a demand for xbox 360 downloads, a few ambitious entrepreneurs decided to start websites that specialize in xbox downloads. There are now websites that offer all sorts of downloads for the xbox – games, movies, TV shows and more – all from one central website.
The reason these website were put together was so that gamers could find xbox 360 downloads without having to worry about infecting their computer or struggling with slow download speeds.
You probably have guessed that there is a fee for using these websites, but thankfully it isn’t expensive. Usually it costs about $50 to join and this membership gives you unlimited downloads for as long as you have your system. You only get billed the one-time and can then login and download files whenever you want.
If you go to the bottom of this article you can find a link we included where you can learn how to get a free trial at a couple of the most popular xbox 360 download websites.
The great part about these websites is that they do what it takes to make sure their customers are happy. The people who run them want to make a profit obviously, so they make sure that the sites offer all the latest games, have fast downloads and that each and every file actually works.
For anyone who likes to try new games, this can be the perfect service. Anytime you want a new game you just have to login on your computer. It’s nice not having to pull out your wallet each time!
As more gamers discover these types of websites I’m sure that more and more people will be using xbox 360 downloads for their systems. It’s a much cheaper and more convenient way of finding new games for your xbox. Good luck!
