As we age, our hair produces less melanin, the same melanin that gives our skin its colour. The most evident sign of aging is the changing colour of our hair. This is the reason our hair becomes grey. At any age grey hair can appear. It’s not always a sign of aging. It is caused by a decline in pigment (grey hair) or a complete loss of pigment (white hair). The cause for it is not fully understood.
Age also has an effect on our hair in other ways. A number of women will notice that their hair thins and lacks life, for others it will appear to be dry and coarse. As we get older our hair starts to get drier, and needs more moisture. Older hair often loses some of its elasticity and the consistency alters. This is because as we get older the size of our hair follicles get smaller and hair growth slows down. Therefore there is not as much new growth to replace what is lost.
Sebum (oil produced naturally by our skin) lessens as our body ages, and so our hair, as a result, loses its natural shine and softness. Plus, during the menopause our production of keratin slows. This protein fibre is important to keeping our hair healthy and strong. For men, there is the issue of going bald, thinning hair and coarse hair, especially the facial hair. Select the correct type of hair colour to disguise your grey hair, but don’t go more than two shades darker or lighter than your natural hair colour. If you use a dark colour it can emphasize a dull complexion.
If you want to keep your grey, endeavour to use a hair shampoo and conditioner that is targeted especially for grey hair. Grey hair can look yellow or greenish on some people. To neutralize the yellow colour and leave your hair shiny and beautiful, try using a greying shampoo that contains a violet based colour, instead of your usual shampoo. Highlights or lowlights can disguise any grey you want to disguise by blending them into the rest of your hair. The same goes for colouring your hair. Avoid going more than two shades lighter than your natural hair colour to avoid looking older than you really are.
Moisturizing (conditioning) is a requirement for older hair. Use a weekly deep conditioning treatment - suggested for aging hair. This will help to preserve the moisture levels in your hair. As time goes by your hair loses its elasticity and this makes it more difficult to style, so try using a protein treatment at least once a month to assist your hair. For men and women, thinning hair can be given a more voluminous look by using volumizing products such as conditioners and mousses.

Of course we cannot deny our age. But this is no excuse to simply give up on ourselves and let our skin make us look old.
In these enlightened times there is no reason for anyone to have dry skin. This is because there are just so many anti-wrinkle creams and potions available to us. They all claim to make our skin supple smooth and young looking even though we are technically “over the hill.”
Let us think about the reasons your skin starts to age before reflecting on the factors that make anti-wrinkle cream work. As we advance in years our skin begins to reflect our age. We begin to experience wrinkles, sagging skin and age spots. Of course there can be many reasons for this. Prolonged exposure to the sun, smoking, heavy drinking, and even genetics can play their part in skin aging. Your skin gradually undergoes changes as you age. You will find that collagen will decrease and there is often an increase in “free radicals” which will deteriorate your skin.
Wrinkles will be present as we age, no matter what we do but an effective anti-wrinkle cream can help to slow down and sometimes reverse the effects of skin aging. Of course you will have to consider your lifestyle as well. Try to eat properly, hydrate yourself and take proper exercise. Try to get enough sleep and avid smoking and heavy drinking. All of these factors will affect your skin’s health.
There are many antiaging and antiwrinkle creams on the market, but those that benefit most have at least some of the following ingredients in them:
One of the best ingredients you can find in an anti-wrinkle cream is something called retinol. Retinol is a derivative of vitamin A. it’s an antioxidant, so it helps neutralize free radicals. It also increases skin cell turnover. This is beneficial because when we are in our 20s, our outer layer of skin is replaced roughly every 28 days. By the time we’re in our 40s, that may have increased to 42 or even more days. To help retain fresh, young skin even into our 40s, we need to speed up this replacement. Retinol does this by dissolving the outer layer of skin and revealing fresh, new skin underneath.
Alpha hydroxy acids and the newer beta and poly hydroxy acids are acids derived from fruit. These acids are exfoliants, which means it removes the outer layer of skin and encourages fresh new skin to appear from beneath. This is similar to one of retinol’s functions, but hydroxy acids produce a minor “injury” to the skin that also encourages new collagen growth to occur in the skin layers themselves. One drawback to hydroxy acids is that they do make you much more photosensitive, so always wear sunscreen when you’re out in the sun.
Coenzyme Q 10 is a powerful antioxidant; in fact it is one of the strongest out there. Its purpose is to neutralize free radicals. These free radicals are toxins that damage new skin cells and make your skin age faster. It is also thought that this substance will stimulate the growth of collagen.
It is thought that Kinetin may help to moisturize the skin and increase collagen growth. It is relatively new and more clinical trials must be done to see the real results.
A point to remember is that price is not an indication of how well an anti-wrinkle cream performs. The best policy is to do your own research. You can do this by checking out reviews and testimonials of the product. This will help you to get a more balanced view of the anti-wrinkle cream. By this means you can save money and get a good product.

Living green is getting a lot of press lately, but did you know that it can help extend your lifespan? Some people are surprised by this fact, but it’s still very true. There are lots of things that help the earth, and help improve our quality of life at the same time. From eating organically to cutting down on fuel usage, lots of things can help you live a greener and longer life. Here are a few.
Healthy organic food from sources you trust helps prevent contamination of the environment by chemical fertilizers and pesticides. It also helps your body, offering it the high quality nutrients it deserves. Organically produced meats and other animal products are great for us, keeping antibiotics and growth hormones out of our systems, and out of the would around us. Eating well, from organic sources, also helps us avoid processed foods that have little nutrition, but are great at clogging our arteries and making us sick.
Driving less can help, too. Combine your errands and you’ll reduce traffic on the streets at the same time as you save fuel and money. You’ll also be a lot less stressed and anxious, since you’re not dealing with other drivers and traffic problems. When you can, carpool with someone else, or take public transportation. Choosing to walk to bike for errands near your home will help you get your exercise - it’s a lot better than a gym, keeps you healthy, and helps you look great!
Composting food scraps is a great way to save money on your garbage bills, while getting a free supply of high quality fertilizer for your gardening efforts or landscaping. It keeps lots of useful material out of landfills - just add veggie and fruit waste, coffee grounds, eggshells and most other food matter to the compost pile, along with yard waste. Watch out for meat and other animal products, though. They can attract pests and take longer to decay. Remember to moisten your compost pile periodically to keep it working, and you’ll have excellent fertilizer for your garden or lawn in the spring.
You can do other things to make your home more comfortable and be kinder to the environment, too. For example, larger windows that are well insulated will let in more natural light, allowing you to leave your lights off more often. Compact fluorescent bulbs save energy, and in the long run, money. Leave your air conditioner off when you’re away and try changing to energy efficient appliances for a much lower power bill and less waste.
Recycling cans, bottles and packaging will also help you reduce your trash bills and your carbon footprint. Consider using cloth bags instead of paper or plastic - you’ll save resources and avoid that ever growing pile of bags in the kitchen. Some stores will give you a small discount for using your own bag. These things all reduce pollution, allowing us to live in a cleaner world.
Once you start, you’ll be surprised at how easy a greener life really is. You’ll feel a lot better and you’ll be able to know you’re doing your part when it comes to keeping the planet healthy. Living greener helps you live happier and longer - give it a try today.

Keep Your Baby Safe with Stroller Safety Tips
Strollers have been used for decades due to the fact that they offer convenience to parents on the move. As with many products on the market that are designed for infants and toddlers, many safety alerts and red flags have been raised.
While it is unfortunate to hear of a baby and/or toddler to be subjected to strollers that may cause injury, and potential death, this information has been used to compile data that will allow parents to know and understand what safety enhancements are most important when selecting baby strollers.
When purchasing a unit for your child and/or children, it is absolutely essential that you take the time to determine if the product is safe. Here, you will be provided with information regarding the dangers that are associated with these devices, as well as some basic safety features that are important to the health and life of your child.
Dangers Associated With Stroller Use
According to Pediatric Emergency Care, there were a number of stroller related injuries responded to in the year of 2004 to the year of 2007 by the 911 Response Team in just one community. The statistics of this particular study indicated the following:
The study was conducted for approximately three and a half years. During this time, 241 different incidents occurred that were specific to those involving shopping carts and strollers. The amount of stroller related injuries came to a number of 121.
The ages of the children that were involved in the stroller related injuries averaged between 0 months and 6 months of age.
Falls resulted in a percentage of 47.5% of all the cases, the largest number of the injuries reported.
59% of the injuries that were connected to stroller related injuries were attributed to the head area.
At least 18% of the children monitored also sustained an injury directly related to the facial area.
At least 77% of the children evaluated were transported to the local emergency treatment center by the use of an ambulance.
While there were no deaths, it is estimated that a little over 8% of all the children involved were hospitalized for further treatment and evaluation of their injuries.
Based on the information obtained from this study, medical professionals determined that education should be an emphasis when it comes to parents who implement the use of baby strollers. It is believed that if parents are aware of the steps to keep their children safe in strollers, there will be less likelihood that injury and even death may occur while using this type of device.
Safety Measures for Stroller Use
The following details some of the safety measures for stroller use. If you have purchased a stroller, or you are considering purchasing a stroller, it is important that you know and understand the basic safety measures that you can take in this situation. Below are some effective strategies that have been found to enhance the safe use of strollers.
1. Strollers that are narrow tend to have the most complications when it comes to leaning and tipping over. As a parent, it is essential to ensure that you purchase strollers that have a base that is actually relatively wide. This way, there is a reduced opportunity for tipping and accidental falls.
2. It is often tempting for an adult to hang things on the stroller handles, such as purses and diaper bags. It is important to understand though, that by doing so you are providing the possibility of causing a stroller to begin tipping over, and this can result in injury.
3. It will add security to the stroller for the child when you use the seatbelt attached to the stroller at all times.
4. Take the time to use the device that locks the stroller into place every single time that you are using the stroller. It is equally important to use the wheel locking devices when the stroller is not in movement.
5. Since it is when a child is left unattended that the most injuries occur, be careful to never leave the baby stroller unattended.
6. Thoroughly check the stroller before and after each use to ensure that the parts are all secure - especially the seat area and the wheel area. If you find that any parts are loose, do not place your child in the unit prior to fixing these components; or purchase a new unit altogether.
7. Product recalls are issued on a regular basis due to safety issues, hence is is wise to always evaluate the product that you have to compare it to the product recalls. If you find that your stroller is listed, simply discard it or follow the appropriate instructions on the recall list.
Conclusion
It is imperative to ensure that you learn as much as you can regarding what can happen, and how to prevent these situations from occurring. If you do this, it is almost a guarantee that your child and/or children will remain safe as both parent and child enjoy the use of these convenient forms of transport.

In less than one hour, you can learn how to slalom water ski, without falling and without any expensive lessons. It is not surprising that many people have a tough time trying to water ski, given that they lack proper preparation. By understanding and practicing proper form and technique, you can master the art of water skiing without the stress.
It all comes down to proper body position. This is something you can practice on dry land. Once you’re actually on the water, your body will know what to do. Start by rolling your shoulders back and forth, from front to back. Roll them back as far as they will go - it will feel as if your shoulder blades are pinching together. Expand your chest by taking a deep breath and arch your back. You have now assumed the correct upper body position for slalom skiing.
Use a water ski handle during practice or substitute a cane or short broomstick. Now that you’ve achieved correct upper body position, you’re ready to work on your hips. Pull back with your shoulders to put your upper body at an angle of about 45 degrees.
From this position, move your hips upward. Do not pull in your arms or change the position of your shoulders. You will feel the rope pulling from your hips. Check whether your knees are in the right position: your ankles should be slightly behind the front of your knees - picture yourself crouching. Your shins will be angled forward over your feet just a bit.
Practice this positioning until you are very comfortable with it. Next, you can practice getting into the sitting position. This position give you control while slalom skiing. To practice the sitting position out of the water, keep the handle to the front of your knees, hold your knees together, and place your feet out a little wider than your hips.
Once youave practiced these postures, you will be ready to slalom water ski on the water. You will want the driver to start at a very slow speed. With the boat just moving forward, you can get the feel of the water under the ski, relaxing into the correct sitting position.
When you can hold this position comfortably, without wavering, for at least 5 seconds, then you are ready to stand up. The driver will speed up to the slowest speed that allows you to stand up. Practice moving from the sitting to the standing position, and back.
Get comfortable sitting, standing and moving on the ski, then start experimenting with movement, staying within the wake of the tow boat. You did it! You are now slalom water skiing! To really carve within the wake takes a little more practice. Start slowly and don’t take too much risk. To keep safe and in control, control your form and body position constantly.

Washington has increased its number of wineries by 400 percent in the last decade. Connoisseurs and the average wine consumer have found a new place to get great wines.
Modern technology has made the process of making wine more sophisticated but the talent to produce great wine is all in the hands of the vintner who uses skills developed over generations of great wine makers sharing their knowledge to have some of the best wines now available at the wineries in Washington.
No, you aren’t in France in the region of the great Bordeaux and Burgundy wines, you are in Washington where the same latitude applies to give the same great growing ability for the grapes to produce fabulous wine. Many of the areas of Washington have been designated as American Viticulture Areas with more under consideration.
No crowds, no hurry, no pressure. Isn’t that what a vacation should be? You will experience the peace and pleasure of great countryside and great wine on a wine tour in Washington. Find the wine you like by going to the wine tastings offered by the different wineries. Find a great place to stay while in the area and make it the most relaxing and enjoyable vacation you have ever taken.
It may be dinner time at your house and what better way to set a relaxing environment than to have a wonderful glass of wine with dinner. Perhaps you are having something that a dry white will enhance or maybe you want a full bodied red to wake up your taste buds. Either can be obtained from one of the wineries in Washington.
Swirl it, Smell it and Slurp it! Get your wine glass, pour in your favorite wine, then swirl it around the glass to get the air to it, smell the wonderful aroma of the wine and then slurp (quietly, gently please) a little to add more air to bring out the full flavor of the wine. The experience will be absolutely delightful.
If just 1% of the wine grapes of Washington are grown on the eastern side of the Cascades then you would think that it was a poor area for wine growers. In fact, it is a great area where the soil is right, the climate perfect and the growing season long to provide fully ripened, fruit flavored grapes with good acid levels and pleasing aromatics. This area will certainly become more of a draw to vintners in the time to come.
The French, Italians and Germans began planting wine grapes in the state as early at 1825 for their own use when they were settling the area. Commercial planting of wine grapes didn’t being in Washington until the 1960’s with rapid expansion of the industry occurring in the mid-70’s. Now there are new wineries opening every couple of weeks for your enjoyment.

Unless you live off the grid in a remote area (and if so, you’re probably not reading this anyway), you no doubt hear a lot about the need to reduce our carbon footprint and to live a greener life. It’s important and almost everyone will acknowledge this, but it can feel like you’re being lectured at times.
Happily, there are some simple steps you can take towards living a greener life. In most cities, there is curbside recycling; so all you need to do is to separate your recyclables and place them out on the curb along with your trash for pickup - the pickup service takes care of the rest, all you have to do is separate your recyclables and take them to the curb.
One great (and easy) way to live greener is to join your local Freecycle email list. Instead of throwing away unwanted items, you can post them on the list - it’s more than likely that someone will have a need for them. Of course, when you need something, you can look there first before going out and buying new things. Freecycle keeps a lot of trash out of landfills and is a great money saver.
You can also get rid of your existing yard lights and replace them with solar powered lights. These do just as good of a job of illuminating your outdoor spaces, but use no electrical power. You can find solar powered yard lights in a variety of pleasing designs and you can install theme yourself without the assistance of an electrician. Solar powered holiday lights are also available, letting you save money on your electric bill while dressing up your home for the holidays.
Another great way to save money while doing something to live greener is to use rechargeable batteries - these have greatly improved in recent years and are long lasting, easy too use and of course save money as well. When the batteries are finally used up and cannot take another charge, they may be recycled at almost any hardware store.
It’s actually pretty easy to live a greener lifestyle. You can benefit the environment and your pocketbook at the same time. You may soon find yourself looking for more ways to add a little more green to your life.

If you’re like most of the world, you have struggled with acne at some point in your life. If acne is still a part of your life, there’s a proven way to get rid of acne and get the clear skin you truly want.
Acne doesn’t have to be a serious problem. There are effective ways to get rid of this problem for good.
Most people have tried some type of treatment to get rid of pimples that hasn’t worked. The drugstore shelves are loaded with different creams and fancy products that claim to “zap zits”.
Every one of these products has a big problem - it doesn’t really treat the root of the acne problem. Instead, these products try to deal with your acne one blemish at a time.
There’s no point dealing with a pimple once it’s already there. What you need to do is treat the cause of the problem.
It’s not a long-term solution and it leaves millions of people frustrated. Many people simply give up and figure that acne can’t be cured.
Acne can be solved - you just to make sure you treat the underlying causes!
How do you do this?
A full treatment system is required to be sure that all causes of acne have been treated. To do that, you’ll need to know what causes acne in the first place.
1) Bacteria that create breakouts
2) Skin inflammation
3) Too much oil on the skin, which is caused by overly active glands
4) Clogged pores in the skin
Those are the big enemies you’ll have to deal with if you’re fighting against acne. If you want to win this battle, you have to make sure you’re using a treatment that deals with all of them.
This seems pretty simple, and it’s certainly not rocket science. Some of the companies producing acne products are deliberately creating less effective products, so you’ll keep buying more.
Thankfully, there are proven treatment systems that have been designed to touch on everyone of the above causes. By doing so, they are able to deliver results in a matter of days and get rid of acne on a permanent basis.
When looking for a treatment, make sure it attacks the problem from all angles. For the most part, these treatments will involve a couple of steps (there might be two or three products that form the treatment). This is the only way to get long lasting results.
If you’ve used acne products before and found that they don’t work, don’t despair. There are proven, effective treatments out there, if you’re willing to look outside your drugstore. The right treatment could be your ticket to clear skin.
